A few Novembers ago, we were in Aswan, Egypt and had the opportunity to be dinner guests at a home in a Nubian Village. We were seated outside on the ground in an open square of the house. It was a very special moonlit night with warm weather and stars overhead. The food was kept in pots and pans and placed on a bench. After we served ourselves, we found our places on the ground and ate dinner with the plates on our laps. I can’t say what was on the menu, but I can say the ambiance of the evening is what remains unforgettable. The fanciest of table settings can’t compete with a full moon.
